SBA Development Officer - Des Plaines, IL - Posted 9/18/08

Banco Popular North America (BPNA) and its Popular Small Business Capital division is a full service community bank with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service. Popular Small Business Capital provides services to small business owners, offering a wide array of SBA products to small business clients. We have been servicing Small Business Clients for over 40 years. We are a division of BPNA, a subsidiary of Popular, Inc. a 113-year old financial services company operating in the United States, the Caribbean, and Central America, with assets of $48.6 billion.

We are looking for Business Development Officers to join our Popular Small Business Capital division. These opportunities are open nationally.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proactively marketing/selling the benefits of selecting BPNA to new and existing customers
  • Development of relationships with the internal SBA Team and other business divisions at Banco Popular.

Partnering with the credit and closing departments to quickly and efficiently move loans through the underwriting process.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ATRIBUTES REQUIRED:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field combined with a minimum 4 years of related work experience

SBA lending experience along with a minimum of 3 years experience in Sales or Credit

  • Proven business acumen, analytical skills and credibility
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to address issues, advocate positions and make specific recommendations
  • To be highly creative, motivated, proactive, energetic and goal orientated.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation & follow-up skills.
  • Necessary Sales Skills include ability to:
  • Read and understand the SBA SOP;
  • Develop a successful business plan;
  • Conduct cold calls in the range of 20-30 referrals/ borrowers per day;
  • Send out monthly post cards and mailers to referral sources;
  • Implement SalesForce.com as their CRM;
  • Identify markets to penetrate for new business;
  • Win business based upon relationship development not rates and fees;
  • Communicate effectively both internally and externally;
  • Provide a complete and well thought out package to credit;
  • Source over $2,000,000 per month in new loan volume;
  • Implement excellent time management.; and
  • Keep the Customer well informed and set the proper expectations.
  • Credit Skills include reading, understanding, and interpreting the following:
  • Credit guidelines;
  • Business and personal tax returns;
  • Personal financial statements;
  • Credit reports and D&B reports; and
  • Financial data needed to complete our loan application.
  • Closing Skills include identifying and assisting with:
  • Issues that may negatively impact the loan request; and
  • Gathering of needed documentation, by explaining to the borrower and referral source why these are necessary and ensuring that these are provided.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field combined.

Minimum 4 years of related work experience.
